Registration Processes and Policies:

Registration Process:
Ideally, flight arrangements and registering for your classes should occur simultaneously. If you find that arriving on a day other than Saturday or Sunday is less expensive and more convenient for you, we can change the start dates of your program accordingly. Or we can add additional tutoring days and homestay days.
 

1. Contact Playas del Sur Spanish School to determine program space availability for your anticipated dates.
2. Contact the airlines to make your reservations. (American, Taca, and Continental have direct flights from Houston and Miami.)
3. E-mail your program application.
4. Playas del Sur Spanish School will send a program confirmation with payment due and payment details via e-mail.
5. After having recieved your application Playas del Sur Spanish School will send you a confirmation and final details for your program.
6. If you will be using our transportation service, confirm 1 week or 3 days prior to your arrival of your airline, flight number, and arrival time.

Payment Process:
Full payment for your program must be made by wire bank transfer and especially by cash. If you have credit card or traveller's cheques with you, you can exchange them or withdraw money in any bank. We would like you to pay 50% in advance via wire bank transfer - please request the information to make transfer. The start date is considered to be the first day of services in San Juan del Sur (homestay on Saturday or Sunday or Class on Monday). Payment can be made to Playas del Sur Spanish School by US check, bank check or wire transfer (add $35 fee).

Program Reservation Changes:
If you find that you need to change your program start date after registering, Playas del Sur must be notified in writing 2 weeks prior to the start date on your application. No fee will be charged for this change. For changes less than 2 weeks a fee of $50 will be charged.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
The registration fee is non-refundable. Tuition is completely refundable 4 weeks prior to your program start date on your application. 50% of the tuition will be refunded if cancellation is made 2 weeks or less prior to your program start date on your application. All requests for cancellations must be submitted in writing or via email and must be received by Playas del Sur Spanish School by the applicable deadline to be eligible for a complete or 50% refund. A refund may take up to 4 weeks to be processed.

Application:

• Extending your Stay:
  If you find that you have additional time to study with us, we can make the arrangements to add an additional week or more to you original application. Your tuition price will be adjusted accordingly. Our policy is that you will need to advise on the Wednesday of your last week of study. Payment for additional weeks will need to be in US dollars or cordobas.
• Transportation to and from Managua:
  There are four ways to get from Managua to San Juan del Sur: 1) taxi, 2) bus, 3) rental car, or 4) Playas del Sur Spanish School will meet you at the airport or your location in Managua.

If this is your first trip to Nicaragua, it is recommended that you use our transportation service. We will meet you at the airport welcoming you with your name on a sign. If you are arriving on a flight during the day, we will then take you directly to San Juan del Sur. If you are arriving on a late flight, or your flight has been delayed, we can also pick you up at any time you want us to as long as you let us know. We will need a confirmation in writing one week or 3 days prior to your arrival; identifying airline, flight number, and time of arrival at the airport in Managua. Surfboards and oversized suitcases will be charged as an additional passenger.

Transportation options from Managua to San Juan del Sur:

Passport and Visa requirements and costs:
A valid passport from most countries with an expiration date of more than 6 months is required to enter Nicaragua. Upon your arrival, you purchase the required travel card for $5.00 (US). The visa is normally valid for 90 days but can be extended. You should travel with a photocopy of your passport and your travel card. For exact requirements for your specific country, check www.intur.gob.ni. Additionally, there is an exit fee at the airport that you can pay in US dollars or Nicaraguan cordobas.

Immunizations:
Nicaragua does not require or recommend any special immunizations. However, for the latest recommendations and information on travel to Central America check the United States Center for Disease Control www.cdc.gov/travel/camerica.htm for their recommendations.

Money to bring:
Traveler's Checks can be cashed Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at the local bank in San Juan del Sur. US dollars in small bills are widely accepted, but you will probably be given change in Cordobas (the local currency). Some locations do take credit cards, and these can be used at most of the automatic tellers found throughout the country (two available in San Juan del Sur at this time and one bank). Since most of your stay is already paid for, you will not need a lot of cash. You may want to buy coffee, cigars, and some of the local artwork, so make sure you have extra space in your suitcase.
